The Australian Working Dog Alliance
A registered non-profit organisation, our mission is to engage and unite the Australian working and sporting dog industry to advance the welfare and productivity of Australia’s iconic working dogs.
We do this by providing our network of participants with opportunities to share ideas. We create an environment in which people can work together to improve working dog welfare, in turn optimising working dog performance and providing new opportunities for professional development in the working dog industry.
We are here to work with all stakeholders in Australia’s diverse working dog industry.
Following the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy approach, we work with all industry, government, animal advocacy and scientific research groups interested in improving the welfare and productivity of working dogs. We have chosen to define a working dog as ‘a domestic dog kept for non-companion purposes that works in a private industry, government, assistance or sporting context‘ as per the recent Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry publications.
The working dog industry sectors contain the following groups:
|Livestock herding||Australian Army||Guide / Seeing eye||Greyhound racing|
|Livestock guardian||Royal Aust. Air Force||Hearing||Sled|
|Hunting||Biosecurity||Physical assistance||Sheep trial|
|Security/guard||Corrective services||Search and rescue||Cattle trial|
|State and Federal Police|
